The Magnificent Masai Mara

Masai Mara, a name, that evokes such wonder and fascination for all people across the world.
The vast Savannah grassland, was a subject, I remember from my geography text book , way back in the seventh standard ( or 7th grade for my American friends). Mrs. Jacinta , my geography teacher then, would certainly like reading this post!

The images that came to mind were swirling grasslands in the breeze, vast areas of plains, a few spotted bushes and trees and maybe an animal here and there.

What came next was totally unbelievable!!!

The Savannah grasslands of the Masai Mara stretch over an area of 1500 sq km , which is roughly the distance from Bombay (am still old school) to Pune in India, or the distance from Delhi to Agra or from Hartford, Connecticut to New York City in length and almost the same in breadth.

There is only one word which Dino put it very aptly," Unimaginable"!

There were 2 striking things about the grasslands, as we witness it, the vastness of space for miles that the eye can see and the pin drop silence (only the whistling of the wind can be heard).

The one other word that came to mind, "Humbling".

Miles to go before I sleep!!!

The magnificence of Nature..

A close up, Want to credit Dino for this shot, he taught me how to use the in focus and out of focus function on the camera

The characteristic Acacia tree, which dots the landscape, was in every guidebook , bucket list book that talked about the Masai Mara

The Masai Mara is so called because the landscape is spotted, or Mara in Kswahili. This is the home of the Masai people and it is Masai land, the only tribe, from what we understand are still living in the traditional way!
