Leaving Nairobi

Time to say "Goodbye" to Nairobi - Kwaheri
What will stay in my memory - what are these things I will remember?

The rides in the car, down Ngong Road - passing the impressing big construction side for the new southside bypass, that seemed to change every day.

In one week, the forest was gone and it looked like this:

The shops on the roadside - the greenhouses, the pottery, the giraffe sculptures....

You never know - even gravestones are available on Ngong Road

The amazing little shops that were selling anything from bananas to airtime...

The clean water and the exhauster tank trucks - covering up the problem that public water supply is not working in major parts of the city...

The funny labels on the matatus and other buses... often leaving me at loss...

"Old is gold" - that's an easy one... and true for most of the vehicles...

 The political discussions in media - newspapers and TV. Very little "sex and crime" instead lots of news, articles, comments on the political situation. Very  impressive how the Kenyans deal with their new constitution, the new government, changing of the administrative structure of their country. By the way - it seems that the teachers strike is coming to an end... finally.
Even the problem of corruption is openly discussed and analyzed...

Abschied aus Nairobi

Was bleibt - welche Erinnerungen nehme ich mit aus Nairobi?

Die vielen Fahrten entlang der Ngong Road, mit der Großbaustelle für eine neue Stadtautobahn - innerhalb einer Woche war der halbe Wald weg...

Die vielen Verkaufstellen an der Straße - auch mit ungewöhnlicher Ausstattung wie z.B. Grabsteinen. Die vielen ganz kleinen Büdchen, bei denen man quasi alles kaufen kann - von Bananen bis zur  Telefon-Prepaid Karte.

Die großen Wasser- und Entsorgungs-LKWs - die kompensieren, dass die öffentliche Wasserversorgung löchrig ist - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes.

Die sehr politische Medienwelt - Zeitungen und Fernsehen berichten ausführlich über die politische Situation, sehr wenig "Sex und Crime", sehr viel inhaltliche Auseinandersetzung mit der aktuellen Situation. Übrigens, anscheinend müssen die Kinder ab Montag wieder in die Schule, die Lehrer streiken voraussichtlich nicht mehr.

Am meisten bleibt natürlich unser Team Kenya #7 in Erinnerung - und darin das beste Team mit dem besten Fahrer: Das MOH Team!!
