Nyumbani Children's Home Visit

Last Friday morning, our team had the wonderful opportunity to visit and tour the the Nyumbani Children’s Home. Nyumbani was founded in 1992 by the late Fr. D'Agostino, a Jesuit priest and doctor, and is Kenya's first and largest facility caring for HIV+ orphans.

The word "nyumbani" means home in Swahili. Nyumbani provides a home and a family for approximately 120 abandoned HIV+ children of all ages from infants to young adults. All children live at the home until they become self-reliant. At the home, the children are able to receive the appropriate medical care including antiretrovial therapy (ART), an education (from nursery, primary, secondary to university/vocational training) and psychosocial and spiritual support that they need.

Of all great opportunities our team will experience during our time in Kenya, I will cherish and remember the small amount of time I was able to spend playing, reading, singing and talking with Moses, Julius, Anne, Victor, Daisy and the rest of kids the most. Asante sana Nyumbani.
