Kenya is undergoing great changes:
The Kenyans got themselves a new constitution in 2010. In March 2013, the new government was elected, and announced in the Jubilee Manifesto its plans for the future, based on the Kenya Vision 2030.
The new constitution change the way Kenya will be governed thoroughly - instead of 7 provinces, there will be 47 counties, which will have widespread competencies in their counties. This is to improve the development in all areas of the country, and reduce the focus on Nairobi.
As the new goverment is now active and most positions are in place, the change to the new fiscal year on July 1st 2013 will see major changes. This is affecting many governmental institutions - including the Ministry of Health, with whom our team is working.
Fortunatly, the people we meet are embracing these changes, and it seems that we are for some aspects are just in the right moment of time here to add in our ideas and thoughts. All ministries, all devision have defined their vision and mission - and this is presented in all buildings.

Umbruch in Kenia
In Kenia verändert sich zur Zeit sehr viel - vor drei Jahren wurde eine neue Verfassung verabschiedet, und im März waren Parlamentswahlen. Nachdem die neue Regierung nun am Start ist, wird sich zum 01. Juli, dem Beginn des Haushaltsjahr, sehr viel ändern.
Die größte Veränderung ist, dass es nun 47 "Counties" geben wird, die sehr viel Eigenverantwortung bekommen werden. Dies soll vor allem dazu dienen, dass sich nicht alles auf die Hauptstadt Nairobi konzentriert.
Diese Veränderung betrifft auch unsere Gesprächspartner im Gesundheitsministerium. Aber die meisten gehen damit sehr positiv um und begrüßen die Veränderungen. Für uns ist es so, dass wir den Eindruck haben, dass wir gerade zur richtigen Zeit hier sind, um Ideen und Gedanken auszutauschen.
Alle Abteilungen der Ministerien haben ihre Ziele und Aufgaben auf großen Plakaten veröffentlicht - siehe oben das Bild mit Mary.
Heute waren wir bei einer Dame im Gesundheitsministerium, die für das Programm zum Screening und zur Behandlung von Gebärmutterhalskrebs verantwortlich ist. Sie ist mit voller Begeisterung bei der Sache - und hat uns viele Informationen geben können. Leider ist sie nun wieder unterwegs in den Counties.
